When reading literature, one is taken into a world they may be unfamiliar with. Whether you are reading to gain knowledge on a time period, such as Anne Frank's Diary, or alternative realities, such as A Clockwork Orange, the reader is taken on a journey that not only gives them insight on humanity, but themselves. Like characters in literature, we are shaped by people and culture, our setting and surroundings, and the conflicts and changes we go through. Life is about the journey, not the destination. The places one may end up are endless possibilities; we may not know where we are going, but we can understand the process it takes to get there. Just as you may not know where a novel, poem, play, etc. you are reading or writing is taking you, you can appreciate the story and journey. And when you arrive, wherever it may be, the interpretation and experience you take with you is entirely your own.
Welcome to 11th grade English, let the journey begin.
